Florence Pugh is set to take on another emotionally compelling project, this time stepping into the realm of fantasy with a story centered on regret, second chances, and alternate lives. The actress is reportedly set to lead the upcoming film, which is based on Matt Haig’s best-selling 2020 novel. Directed by Garth Davis, known for the acclaimed film Lion, the movie is already generating excitement as a visually ambitious yet deeply personal fantasy drama.
According to recent reports from Deadline, Pugh will star as Nora Seed in The Midnight Library. The story remains faithful to the novel’s core themes, emphasizing emotional depth over spectacle. It explores issues like personal regret, mental health, missed opportunities, and self-discovery through Nora’s journey across various alternate realities.
Garth Davis will direct the film, which centers on Nora, a woman who finds herself in a magical library suspended between life and death. There, she is granted a rare opportunity to explore alternate versions of her life—different relationships, careers, and choices. Described as a “big-budget love letter to life,” the film aims to blend emotional storytelling with visually stunning sequences. While showcasing imaginative worlds, each alternative life Nora experiences is designed to resonate on a deeply personal level, making the fantasy elements feel more intimate than escapist.
Florence Pugh will also serve as a producer, collaborating with a talented team that demonstrates her dedication to bringing this heartfelt story to the screen. The project is jointly backed by Studiocanal and Blueprint Pictures, with producers Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin, Anita Overland, and Pugh herself involved in shaping the film. Studiocanal is actively promoting the project at the Cannes market, with insiders suggesting it is the largest-budget European studio production in recent years.
While an official release date has not yet been announced, The Midnight Library has already become one of Florence Pugh’s most anticipated upcoming roles, promising a blend of emotional depth and visual storytelling.
