Warner Bros. In Early Development of Rick and Morty Movie, Jacob Hair in Talks to Direct

Warner Bros. is in the early stages of developing a Rick and Morty movie, with franchise veteran Jacob Hair reportedly in discussions to direct, according to Deadline. Plot details remain a secret. Dan Harmon, co-creator of the Adult Swim series alongside Justin Roiland, has hinted at plans for a “super badass” feature-length episode for several years.

The show, which premieres its ninth season on Sunday, May 24, is an Emmy-winning adult animated series that follows the adventures of genius, alcoholic mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his anxious grandson Morty Smith. They navigate suburban family life while traveling through infinite dimensions in a vast multiverse. Justin Roiland originally voiced both characters but left in 2023 after felony domestic abuse charges were dismissed. Rick and Morty are now voiced by Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden, respectively.

Since its debut in 2013, the series has been a staple on Adult Swim. Jacob Hair joined the team in 2019, directing many episodes and serving as supervising director. The show also features voices from Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer, and Sarah Chalke.

In addition to the upcoming movie, a spinoff titled President Curtis, starring Keith David, is also in development for Adult Swim.
