Kathryn Newton has been cast in a starring role in the upcoming Hulu pilot Durango, developed by writer Eliza Clark, in partnership with 20th Television and Media Res.
In the series, Newton will portray Bunny, a captivating, wild, yet deeply guarded individual. She has always been determined to keep moving forward, and her current stop in Durango is no different. Though she doesn’t trust easily, something about local snowboarding legend Mikey, played by Cooper Hoffman, begins to break down her defenses. When the two find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time, the secrets Bunny has kept buried for years threaten to surface.
Durango follows Mikey, a ski bum townie chasing thrill and escape, and Bunny, a homeschooled runaway working as a greasy spoon waitress. Together, they become caught in a whirlwind of reckless decisions, falling in love while fleeing from police, criminals, and Mikey’s wife, all in pursuit of their version of the American dream.
Clark serves as an executive producer alongside Media Res’s Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer.
Currently, Newton is filming Hot Year, a feature directorial debut by Sophie Sorkin, opposite Storm Reid, Dove Cameron, and J. Smith Cameron. She is also set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release this December. Newton’s previous credits include the horror film Abigail from Universal Pictures, and she gained widespread recognition for her roles opposite Paul Rudd in Marvel’s Ant-Man and Reese Witherspoon in HBO’s Big Little Lies. Upcoming projects include the Basquiat biopic Samo Lives and Lionsgate’s Devil’s Mouth. Newton is represented by Entertainment 360, WME, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
