Fresh off her win on Australian Idol, Kesha Nevé is ready to introduce the world to the artist behind the television spotlight. On June 26, she releases her debut single, “Better This Way,” marking her first original track and a significant step in establishing her identity as a singer-songwriter.
The country-pop song offers fans a genuine glimpse into Kesha’s personal experiences, narrating the story of heartbreak and self-discovery. Co-written with Ruby Rogers and the Middleman duo Lara Frew and Phoebe Sinclair—who also produced the track—the single was crafted by an all-female team. For Kesha, this collaboration made the creative process even more meaningful.
“My goal as a musician has always been to tell a story and to take lyrics and make them my own—to make it feel like I almost wrote it myself,” Kesha explains. “Being able to write a song that reflects my personal story is an incredible way for people to see me as an artist, not just through other people’s lyrics, but through my own experiences.”
“Better This Way” delves into the pain of giving everything to a relationship that wasn’t reciprocated. Kesha shares, “I was very in love and dedicated to someone who probably didn’t feel the same way.”
While millions of Australians followed her journey on Australian Idol, this new single signals the beginning of a fresh chapter. Describing herself as a “country pop storyteller,” Kesha’s musical influences are shaped by her life between the Snowy Mountains and the NSW Far South Coast. She also spends time in Bondi, drawing inspiration from her experiences working on farms and around the rodeo scene—elements that continue to influence her sound and storytelling.
With “Better This Way,” Kesha Nevé steps confidently into her solo career, ready to share her voice and her story with the world.
