Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley, former stars of The Vampire Diaries, are set to reunite onscreen in a new Hulu drama titled You Deserve to Know, according to Deadline. The series will be an adaptation of Aggie Blum Thompson’s upcoming 2025 novel, with Dobrev and Wesley leading the cast. The project is developed by Alex Cooper’s Unwell, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, and writer Brian Tanen, who brought the series to Hulu in a competitive development process.
The story centers around three suburban couples who are close neighbors and friends. Their peaceful lives are shattered when a husband’s murder uncovers a web of secrets, ultimately tearing their friendship apart. Dobrev and Wesley portray Gwen and Scott, neighbors caught on opposite sides of the investigation. As dark truths emerge, their characters’ relationship is pushed toward an unavoidable clash.
Tanen, who wrote the pilot script based on Thompson’s novel, has previous experience developing hit series like Grand Hotel for ABC and serving as co-showrunner on Hulu’s Love, Victor. Kapal previously collaborated with both actors—Dobrev starred in Kapital’s CBS comedy Fam, while Wesley headlined the CBS All Access thriller Tell Me a Story. The actors also serve as executive producers alongside Tanen, Thompson, Cooper, Matt Kaplan, and Mina Lefevre. The series is produced by Kapital and 20th Television. This marks Kapital’s second significant Hulu project in a month, following What Remains starring Kerry Washington.
Dobrev and Wesley’s chemistry on-screen dates back to their six seasons together on The CW’s The Vampire Diaries, where they played Elena and Stefan in one of the most iconic YA love triangles of the 2010s. Currently, Dobrev is developing multiple projects, including the erotic thriller series Night Float at Fifth Season, while Wesley recently finished filming the fifth and final season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for Paramount+, in which he portrayed James T. Kirk.
