Kristen Stewart’s upcoming comedy film has unveiled its first-look images, offering a psychedelic tease of the humor-filled adventure. The previews also showcase Alia Shawkat, LaKeith Stanfield, and Kate McKinnon. Titled The Wrong Girls, this NEON production follows the misadventures of two stoner best friends, Frankie (Stewart) and Molly (Shawkat), during a wild psychedelic journey that spirals into chaos.
The released images depict the duo overlooking a “briefcase full of glowing vials,” hinting at the story’s chaotic nature, alongside glimpses of Stanfield’s and McKinnon’s characters. The film is directed by Dylan Meyer. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Meyer shared insights about her directorial debut: “Frankie and Molly are codependent boneheads who’ve spent the last decade blissfully in a fog of weed, enabling each other’s bad choices and resisting adult responsibilities. Just as Molly’s boyfriend asks her to move in, Frankie is mistakenly handed a briefcase filled with experimental psychedelic vials.”
The cast also includes Zack Fox, Tony Hale, Geena Davis, and voice roles from Seth Rogen and Kumail Nanjiani. Producers involved are Allison Rose Carter, Evan Goldberg, Alex McAtee, Maggie McLean, Jon Read, Seth Rogen, John Weaver, and Kristen Stewart herself. The story draws inspiration from Meyer’s personal experiences with her best friend and producing partner, Maggie McLean, whom she affectionately calls “the babe” she relies on.
Meyer describes the film as “a love letter to chaotic women and the vital platonic friendships that support them. While The Wrong Girls features giant squids, Danish hitmen, talking cats, and supernatural powers, its emotional core is rooted in true memoir.”
The film is set to premiere in theaters on August 14, 2026.
