Teachers are often expected to do the impossible with limited resources, little recognition, and endless patience. Bad Apples takes that reality and twists it into a darkly comic thriller, asking what happens when one teacher is finally pushed too far.
The first trailer has been released for the film, starring Saoirse Ronan as Maria, a dedicated primary school teacher in Somerset who genuinely loves her profession. However, the relentless pressures of an underfunded education system slowly chip away at her optimism and resilience.
Directed by Jonatan Etzler and adapted by Jess O’Kane from Rasmus Andersson’s novel De Oönskade, the film centres on Maria’s increasingly strained relationship with one of her pupils, Danny, played by newcomer Eddie Waller. As Danny’s disruptive behaviour escalates, Maria finds herself making a series of increasingly questionable decisions, setting the stage for a thriller that blends biting satire with psychological tension.
