Xolo Maridueña is set to reprise his role as Blue Beetle in the upcoming Superman sequel, “Man of Tomorrow,” according to sources close to the production who confirmed to Deadline. This marks his first appearance as the DC Comics hero since his starring role in the 2023 film directed by Ángel Manuel Soto.
Maridueña joins an already impressive cast that includes David Corenswet as Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisoaondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Adria Arjona as Maxima. actor Aaron Pierre is also part of the ensemble.
In addition, Deadline previously reported exclusively that a Blue Beetle animated series was in development by Miguel Puga, Warner Bros. Animation, and DC Studios. However, with HBO Max’s shift in programming focus toward adult and family content, children’s programming—including the Blue Beetle series aimed at younger audiences—has been deprioritized. Since the initial announcement, there have been no further updates on the animated project.
The live-action “Blue Beetle” movie centers on Jaime Reyes, the third character to assume the mantle of Blue Beetle in DC Comics. Originating from El Paso, Texas, Jaime was created by Charles Wojtkowski for Fox Comics in 1939 and made his comic book debut in 2006, donning a high-tech alien armor that grants him extraordinary powers.
