Disney+ Revives Classic Favorite with New Generation of Mouseketeers in “The Mickey Mouse Club” Reboot

Disney+ is bringing back the beloved variety show that launched the careers of stars like Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling, and Keri Russell, with a fresh cast of Mouseketeers.

According to Deadline, the streamer has ordered a pilot for the reboot of “The Mickey Mouse Club.” The project is produced by Fulwell Entertainment, the company behind Hulu’s “The Kardashians,” with filming set to begin this month in Los Angeles.

The new cast features 11 talented young performers, including Hudson Stone, Casey Trotter, and Brooklynn Pitts—who all appear in Disney’s upcoming “Camp Rock 3.” Others include Erianthe Akaata (“Young Rock”), Scarlett London Diviney (“The Lion King”), Michael Cash (“Black Rabbit”), Yonas Kibreab (“Elio”), Varonica Mitchell, Kauani, Scarlett Grace Petty, and Carter Barnes. Disney describes the show as a “showcase for today’s most talented young performers, where music, innovation, and self-expression take center stage.”

The pilot is executive produced by Ben Winston, co-founder of Fulwell Entertainment and a former executive producer of “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” Winston will also serve as creative director for LA28. Other executive producers include Ashley Edens, known for “Everybody’s Live” with John Mulaney, along with Emma Conway and Dave Piendak.

“The Mickey Mouse Club” was originally created by Walt Disney in the 1920s as a stage show, then debuted on ABC from 1955 to 1959, featuring stars like Mickey Rooney’s sons. It was rebooted from 1977 to 1979 as a syndicated series, with Lisa Whelchel, who later starred in NBC’s “The Facts of Life,” as a cast member. Disney revived the show again in 1989, and it continued until 1996, producing a roster of future stars.

Among those who gained fame from the original run were Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling, and Keri Russell—who humorously remarked in 2023 that she was “literally the least talented one there.” The series also featured Nsync’s JC Chasez, En Vogue’s Rhona Bennett, Nikki DeLoach (“Awkward”), pop singer Chase Hampton, and Steven Universe’s Deedee Magno, highlighting its role as a launchpad for many successful careers.
