The filmmakers behind the cult stoner comedy Grandma’s Boy are reuniting for a new R-rated comedy, bringing together familiar faces and a fresh story. The team, including Nick Swardson and Allen Covert—who co-wrote the 2006 hit with Barry Wernick—are back in the writer’s chair for Mini War, directed by Joel David Moore, who starred in Grandma’s Boy alongside Linda Cardellini. This project comes as Grandma’s Boy celebrates its 20th anniversary.
Mini War follows Joe, played by Luke Wilson, a lovable stoner who unexpectedly inherits a mini golf course from his late uncle. Hoping to sell the course and start fresh, Joe seeks a buyer willing to preserve his uncle’s legacy. However, Darren, portrayed by Nick Swardson, owns the go-cart track across the street and has other plans. Darren aims to demolish the mini golf course to expand his go-cart empire and fulfill his dream of creating NazzKart. Vanessa Hudgens stars as Olivia, who runs the “Who Let the Hot Dogs Out” food stand located between the two courses. Along with a colorful cast of locals, Olivia becomes entangled in the escalating conflict between Darren and Joe, leading to all-out war.
The film is being produced by Jarod Einsohn, Joel David Moore of Balcony 9 Productions, and Limor Hakim of Level 1 Entertainment, alongside Grandma’s Boy producers Bill Todman, Jr. and Edward Milstein of Level 1 Entertainment, as well as David Wachs and Ojan Missaghi of Toric Films.
