Disney+ has officially greenlit “Afterlife with Archie,” a one-hour drama series based on the popular Archie comic book series created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Francesco Francavilla. The show is scheduled to premiere around Halloween 2027 on the streaming platform.
The series order follows nine months of development since the project secured a significant script-to-series commitment. “Afterlife with Archie” is produced by the same creative team behind CW’s “Riverdale” and Netflix’s “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” It is developed by Aguirre-Sacasa, Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions, and Warner Bros. Television, with Aguirre-Sacasa and Berlanti holding overall deals.
Written by Aguirre-Sacasa and based on the beloved Archie Comics characters, “Afterlife with Archie” reimagines the typically wholesome town of Riverdale as a zombie apocalypse. The story kicks off when a supernatural spell cast by a teenage witch backfires, unleashing an army of the undead upon the town. As Archie and his friends navigate the horrors of a world overrun by zombies, they face a terrifying challenge: surviving their teenage years amid chaos. The series promises to explore themes of friendship, romance, and loyalty, all set against a backdrop of supernatural horror.
