Jamie Foxx has signed on to lead Deadlocked, a new action thriller in development at Amazon MGM Studios. According to Deadline, the film will be directed by acclaimed Indian filmmaker Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, marking another major Hollywood project for the rising director.
Deadlocked follows a former Marine struggling to move on from personal tragedy while serving on jury duty during a high-profile court case. When the defendant’s daughter storms the courthouse and sparks a violent hostage situation, the decorated veteran is forced to rely on his military training to protect those trapped inside.
Bhat takes the helm after earning widespread recognition for his 2023 Hindi-language action thriller Kill. Inspired by a train robbery he witnessed in 1995, the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it was named the first runner-up for the People’s Choice Award in the Midnight Madness section.
The screenplay for Deadlocked has been written by Eric Scot Anderson and Matt Takejiro Bosack, based on an original concept developed by the pair. While Foxx is the only cast member announced so far, additional casting is expected in the coming months.
Deadlocked will debut exclusively on Prime Video, although a release date has yet to be announced.
