featuring @netflix
Netflix has revealed plans for a new comedy titled Women Like Us, produced by Charles D. King’s Macro Film Studios and the Obamas’ Higher Ground Productions. The film will feature an ensemble cast including Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams, and Vivica A. Fox.
Filming is set to take place this fall in New York City. The story centers on a recently widowed woman who is unexpectedly taken to the Hamptons by her lifelong friends and sister to celebrate what should have been her 30th wedding anniversary. However, the weekend becomes a profound journey of self-discovery, confronting grief, reevaluating marriage, and strengthening the bonds of sisterhood that have sustained them all these years. The narrative highlights that dreams can be reborn at any age.
The film is directed by Tasha Smith, known for her work on TV series such as Bel-Air and Harlem. Smith is adapting the project from an original screenplay by Ali Kinney, whose credits include Ginny & Georgia and Love Life. The script is penned by Tracy Oliver, renowned for Girls Trip and The Blackening.
Women Like Us marks the first collaboration between Macro Film Studios and Higher Ground Productions. These studios have several upcoming projects with Netflix, including the series All the Sinners Bleed, The Altruists, and an untitled mother-daughter comedy led by Julianne Moore.
