Fans of Sons of Anarchy are getting an unexpected reunion. Several stars from the hit FX biker drama are coming together for a new limited series, Legends, though they will not reprise their original characters.
Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal, and Ron Perlman are among the cast members featured in FX’s upcoming meta-thriller. The series will also reunite Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates, and Theo Rossi, bringing the former Sons of Anarchy cast together more than a decade after the original series concluded.
Legends follows fictionalized versions of the actors as they reunite at a fan convention celebrating Sons of Anarchy. What begins as a nostalgic gathering soon takes a dangerous turn when the group becomes caught up in a real-world threat. As the story unfolds, the distinction between the actors’ real lives and their famous television personas begins to disappear.
According to the official logline: “When the cast of ‘Sons of Anarchy’ reunites at a fan convention after more than a decade, the line between life and art blurs as the fractured brotherhood finds itself up against a real-world threat more dangerous than anything they ever faced in their show.”
Hunnam developed Legends alongside Jonathan Groff. The pair will executive produce the series with Rob Mac, Nicholas Frenkel, and Jackie Cohn.
FX Entertainment president Nick Grad praised Hunnam’s concept, calling it “a love letter to the series and a fun meta twist on what fans think they know.” FX Productions and 20th Television are producing the limited series.
A release date for Legends has not yet been announced.
Created by Kurt Sutter, Sons of Anarchy premiered on FX in 2008 and ran for seven seasons. The series became one of the network’s most successful early scripted dramas, building a dedicated fanbase around the fictional motorcycle club SAMCRO.
The reunion comes as Hunnam reaches another major milestone in his career. The actor recently received his first Emmy nomination for his performance in Monster: The Ed Gein Story. His other notable credits include The Gentlemen, Pacific Rim, and Shantaram.
