Universal Sets 2027 Release Date for Blumhouse and Atomic Monster’s New Horror Film ‘Sleepover’

Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are teaming up again with filmmaker Jacob Chase, director of Insidious: Out of the Further, for a new large-scale horror movie titled Sleepover at Universal.

The studio has scheduled Sleepover for release in theaters on October 8, 2027. Universal had previously reserved the date for an untitled Blumhouse and Atomic Monster project.

The announcement follows the strong opening of Insidious: Out of the Further, which earned an impressive $60.3 million worldwide during its debut weekend. Released by Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems and Stage 6, the latest installment has helped push the 16-year-old Insidious franchise past $800 million globally.

Chase is set to direct Sleepover from a screenplay he co-wrote with Bryce McGuire, writer of Night Swim. The film is based on McGuire’s original short story and is being described as the “quintessential sleepover nightmare.”

Jason Blum will produce the project, while Chase, McGuire and Bea Sequeira will serve as executive producers.

With Chase returning to the Blumhouse and Atomic Monster fold following his work on Insidious: Out of the Further, Sleepover marks another major horror collaboration between the filmmaker and the production companies.
