Ryan Gosling is set to bring the iconic Flintstones franchise to life in a new live-action movie for Warner Bros. While the project is still in the early stages of development, new details suggest that the upcoming film could take a very different approach to the beloved animated series.
According to reports, the Ryan Gosling-led movie will focus on Bamm-Bamm Rubble, one of the franchise’s most recognizable characters. Unlike the original animated series, where Bamm-Bamm was introduced as a young boy, the new live-action film is expected to portray him as an adult.
The change could give the movie a fresh perspective on the classic Flintstones universe. The original animated series, created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, premiered in September 1960 and primarily followed Fred Flintstone, his family, and his best friend Barney Rubble and his family.
Gosling is developing the project alongside his Open Invite producing partner Jessie Henderson. However, the film remains in its early development phase, with the producers currently looking for a writer to bring the new story to the big screen.
This would not be the first live-action adaptation of The Flintstones. The franchise previously made the jump to live action in 1994 with The Flintstones, starring John Goodman, Rick Moranis, Elizabeth Perkins, and Rosie O’Donnell. Brian Levant directed the film.
A second live-action movie, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, followed in 2000 and served as a prequel to the 1994 film. Levant also directed that installment.
With Gosling attached and Bamm-Bamm reportedly taking center stage, the new Flintstones movie could offer a significantly different take on the classic Stone Age family. More details about the cast, story, writer, and release plans are expected as development continues.
