Sacha Baron Cohen is bringing one of his most iconic characters back to the big screen. Ali G returns in Ali G: Who Iz I?, a new comedy that marks Cohen’s directorial debut. Amazon MGM Studios is set to release the film in theaters on October 23, 2026.
The movie has been filmed largely in secret, with few details about its story revealed ahead of the first trailer. The footage offers an early glimpse at Ali G’s latest adventure, once again blending Cohen’s signature improvisational comedy with awkward encounters and unsuspecting interview subjects.
Ali G: Who Iz I? marks the character’s first major return to the big screen in more than two decades. Cohen originally introduced Ali G on The 11 O’Clock Show in 1998 before the character became the star of Da Ali G Show. Ali G later made his feature-film debut in 2002’s Ali G Indahouse.
Known for his exaggerated personality, bizarre slang, and intentionally awkward interactions, Ali G quickly became one of Cohen’s most recognizable creations. The new film appears to continue that approach, with the character claiming he has spent the past 20 years relaxing while the world around him has seemingly fallen apart.
Cohen announced the project on Instagram in a video featuring himself in character as Ali G. In the clip, Ali G jokes about the supposed documentary being made about him while promoting its October 23 release date in his typically unconventional style.
The trailer also shows Ali G attempting to make a documentary of his own, setting the stage for more of the improvised comedy and unpredictable interviews that helped make the character famous.
Ali G has already begun making appearances in the real world ahead of the film’s release. Cohen appeared in character at the 2026 Wimbledon men’s singles final, where he interacted with spectators at Centre Court. During the appearance, he also attempted to sell cannabis as part of the performance.
With Cohen once again stepping into the role, Ali G: Who Iz I? looks set to bring the character’s distinctive brand of comedy to a new generation while reuniting longtime fans with one of his most memorable creations.
