Samara Weaving and Nicholas Braun are set to star in Hivemind, a new environmental thriller that pits a small-town community against a deadly swarm of killer wasps. Directed by Ciarán Foy and distributed by Amazon MGM Studios, the film is currently in production.
Written by Peter Gaffney, Hivemind is set in a small town facing an increasingly dangerous outbreak of killer wasps. As the threat grows, local residents must come together to contain the swarm before the crisis escalates into a potential global disaster.
Gaffney is also producing the film alongside Adam Rodin and Brad Luff. Thunder Road producers Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Diarmaid McGrath are also attached, while Scott Strauss of Badlands, along with Macdara Kelleher and John Keville of Wild Atlantic Pictures, are serving as producers.
Badlands acquired the rights to Hivemind before the screenplay was officially taken to market. Scott Strauss previously praised the project, describing the script as compelling and expressing his appreciation for Gaffney and his team for placing their trust in Badlands’ approach to development.
Production on Hivemind has now begun in Dublin. While Weaving and Braun’s roles have been confirmed, details about their characters and the film’s wider storyline remain under wraps.
The project does not currently have an announced release date. Following its theatrical or initial release, Hivemind is expected to stream on Prime Video.
With its combination of environmental themes, survival horror and a seemingly unstoppable swarm of deadly insects, Hivemind could offer a fresh take on the thriller genre when it eventually reaches audiences.
