Sharon Horgan is back with a new HBO comedy series, and the first trailer for Youth offers a hilarious and relatable look at life, love and getting older.
Created by, written by and starring Horgan, Youth follows Alex, a 50-year-old divorcee attempting to rebuild her life while navigating the complications of dating, family and growing older. The newly released trailer gives viewers a glimpse at the chaos that awaits her as she tries to find happiness while juggling a number of personal responsibilities.
Alex is dealing with more than just the challenges of starting over. She is also caring for her aging parents while attempting to raise her son, who should arguably be more independent by now. At the same time, she is determined to continue searching for sex, romance and a sense of excitement in her life.
The trailer opens with Alex receiving some worrying news about her health before quickly shifting into a series of increasingly chaotic moments. From awkward encounters to nights out and attempts at dating, Alex appears determined not to let her age prevent her from enjoying life.
The series promises to combine sharp comedy with a more heartfelt look at the realities of middle age, particularly the pressures that come with balancing family responsibilities while trying to figure out what you want for yourself.
Horgan leads the cast as Alex, with Rupert Friend playing Patrick. The ensemble also includes Sharlene Whyte as Sam, Aran Murphy as Ruari and Robbie Gee as Frank.
Youth is produced by Merman, the production company behind Horgan’s acclaimed series Bad Sisters, as well as Amandaland and Vladimir. Horgan serves as an executive producer alongside Faye Dorn, Jim Kleverweis and director Dawn Shadforth.
The HBO Original will consist of eight episodes. The first two episodes are scheduled to premiere together on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 10 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max, with new episodes following weekly. The season finale is set for November 1.
