Odette Annable, known for Cloverfield and The Unborn, is leading the cast of the upcoming horror thriller Postmortem, which also stars Allegra Leguizamo (Tin Soldier), Julio Cesar Cedillo (Sicario), Andres Londono (Fear the Walking Dead) and Tony Revolori (Scream VI).
Ahead of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) market, Los Angeles-based Sublimity Entertainment has announced the launch of international sales for the feature, which is currently in post-production. The film was written and directed by Colombian genre filmmaker Andrés Beltrán, whose previous credits include the survival thriller Quicksand.
Postmortem follows Helena (Annable), a forensic medical investigator struggling to cope with the devastating death of her husband, Richard (Londono). When she becomes consumed by a disturbing new case, Helena begins to believe she has discovered a way to bring Richard back from the dead. Her obsession soon unleashes a terrifying chain of events with consequences she could never have anticipated.
A first-look image from the film has also been released ahead of the TIFF market.
Annable has built an extensive television career alongside her film work, appearing in popular series including Walker, Supergirl and House.
Beltrán previously made his English-language feature debut with Quicksand, which was released by Shudder and AMC+. He also directed the Colombian horror film Tarumama, which screened at the prestigious Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival. His television credits include Netflix’s Wild District, Amazon’s Primate and the Vix horror anthology series La Hora Marcada.
The filmmaker won Best Director at Colombia’s India Catalina Awards for the historical drama Bolívar, which also earned him a Best Director nomination at the Seoul International Drama Awards.
Postmortem is produced by Jason Cherubini, Roberto Urbina and Martin Ramos through Cinestesia Films. Luisa Velosa, Alma Hernandez-Hercules, John Harris, J. Todd Harris, Marc Marcum and Thomas Pettinelli serve as executive producers.
Sublimity Entertainment CEO Ryan McCombs described the film as a blend of emotional drama and elevated horror, praising Beltrán’s distinctive approach to the material.
“Postmortem combines an emotional story about grief and loss with elevated genre filmmaking,” said McCombs. “Andrés brings a distinctive voice and visual style to an eerie and suspenseful story about the terrifying places love can take us.”
