Netflix is set to celebrate the life and legacy of late actor Matthew Perry with a new three-part documentary series, The One About Matthew Perry. The Friends star, who died on October 28, 2023, from an accidental overdose, will be remembered through personal stories, rare footage, and reflections from those who knew him best.

Directed by Emmy Award winner Mary Robertson, the upcoming documentary will feature exclusive interviews with Perry’s family, longtime friends, and professional collaborators. The series is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 27.

Among those sharing their memories is Perry’s sister, Mia Perry Bowick, along with several of the actor’s closest friends. The documentary will also draw from the Perry family’s private archive, featuring previously unreleased photographs and videos that offer a more personal look at the actor’s life away from the spotlight.

The series will trace Perry’s journey from an aspiring comedian to international stardom, with particular attention paid to his rise through Hollywood and his career-defining role as Chandler Bing on Friends.

Perry was open about his struggles with addiction throughout his life, and the documentary will explore that deeply personal part of his story. It will include never-before-heard accounts from friends and collaborators who stood by the actor as he faced his personal challenges.

Perry became a global star through his portrayal of Chandler Bing on NBC’s Friends, which ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004. Known for his sharp wit, sarcastic humor, and impeccable comedic timing, Chandler quickly became one of the sitcom’s most recognizable and beloved characters.

The role earned Perry his first Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 2002. He later received additional Emmy nominations for his performances in The West Wing in 2003 and the television film The Ron Clark Story in 2006.

Beyond television, Perry appeared in a number of popular films, including Fools Rush In (1997), Almost Heroes (1998), and 17 Again (2009).

While Perry built an extensive career across film and television, his legacy remains closely tied to Chandler Bing. For millions of fans around the world, his unforgettable performance on Friends continues to be one of the defining parts of his enduring legacy.
