Rebecca Ferguson and Greta Lee are joining forces for a romantic comedy that looks set to put an unusual spin on the classic meet-cute.
The two acclaimed actresses are leading Honeymoon / Funeral, a new feature from director Nahnatchka Khan, best known for Always Be My Maybe and Totally Killer. The movie is currently filming in London, with MRC financing and overseeing the production.
The story follows two women who cross paths during a flight from Los Angeles to London, although they’re travelling for very different reasons.
Ferguson’s character is heading to London to begin what was supposed to be her honeymoon. There’s just one problem: her girlfriend has left her at the altar. Meanwhile, Lee’s character is travelling back to London following the death of her mother.
Despite their dramatically different circumstances, the pair find themselves spending the following week together, setting the stage for an unexpected romantic connection.
The project is directed by Khan from a screenplay by Julia Bicknell, whose previous writing credits include Yellowjackets, The Haunting of Bly Manor and 13 Reasons Why. FilmNation has launched international sales on the project ahead of the Toronto International Film Festival market.
While Ferguson and Lee have both demonstrated impressive dramatic range throughout their careers, neither actress is particularly associated with traditional romantic comedies, making the pairing an intriguing one.
The two stars have actually shared the screen before, appearing together in Kathryn Bigelow’s 2025 thriller A House of Dynamite. Their reunion here takes them into considerably lighter territory.
Ferguson has recently appeared in projects including Silo and Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, and is set to return as Lady Jessica in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three. Lee, meanwhile, earned widespread acclaim for her performance in Past Lives and has since appeared in projects including Late Fame and The Last House.
Production on Honeymoon / Funeral has already generated plenty of interest after Ferguson and Lee were photographed filming romantic scenes together around London, including a kiss on location.
With two talented performers at its centre and a director with proven experience in comedy, Honeymoon / Funeral could offer a refreshing take on the romantic-comedy formula.
An official release date has yet to be announced, although the movie is expected to arrive sometime in 2027.
