Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine), Yasmin Kassim (You, Always) and Booboo Stewart (Twilight) are set to star in Pipe Cleaner Boy, a female-led road trip comedy written and directed by Anna Rose Moore.
The film follows Rachel (Breslin), whose carefully structured life falls apart after she discovers her fiancé is cheating on her and loses her job. Believing the twin disasters are a form of karmic payback, Rachel embarks on a cross-country road trip with her free-spirited best friend, Leeza (Kassim). Along the way, the pair set out to find a boy from Rachel’s past so she can make amends and attempt to set her life back on track.
Production is scheduled to begin in October in Oklahoma City.
Pipe Cleaner Boy is produced by Brynn Lucas (Bringing Back Young Justice), Charles Papert (Key & Peele) and Mark Myers of Citizen Skull (HBO’s Streetgang), in association with Cris Cordero’s Paravox (Dream Baby Dream). Ricki Maslar is handling casting.
Moore most recently wrote the upcoming comedy Adulting for BuzzFeed Studios. The film stars Leighton Meester, Tyler Posey and Sherry Cola and is directed by Maureen Bharoocha. Pipe Cleaner Boy marks Moore’s feature directorial debut, with Papert serving as cinematographer.
Producer Brynn Lucas said the film arrives at an ideal moment for a comedy centered on young women and fresh creative voices.
“There is a specific sweet spot for a film like Pipe Cleaner Boy,” Lucas said. “A cast that is trusted and loved by audiences, a female-led team pushing the envelope for fresh voices in both directing and producing, and a script that deeply resonates with Gen Z.”
Lucas added that Moore’s screenplay combines humor with a story about reassessing the direction of one’s life.
“Anna Rose’s script is funny, irreverent, and captures what it feels like to be a young woman suddenly unsure if she’s been climbing the right ladder,” she said.
