A new trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero has arrived, and it is already giving fans plenty to speculate about. While the highly anticipated follow-up to Godzilla Minus One puts Godzilla back at the centre of the action, eagle-eyed viewers believe the footage could be teasing the arrival of one of the monster’s most famous enemies.
Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, Godzilla Minus Zero follows the success of 2023’s Godzilla Minus One, which became a major international hit and made history by becoming the first film in the long-running Godzilla franchise to win an Academy Award.
The sequel also marks an important technical milestone, as it is the first Japanese production to be filmed specifically for IMAX. The latest trailer showcases the scale of Yamazaki’s vision, with enormous destruction, aerial action and another terrifying return from the King of the Monsters.
However, it may not be Godzilla alone that audiences need to worry about.
Is King Ghidorah Coming?
Although neither Toho nor the filmmakers have confirmed the appearance of another kaiju, the latest footage has sparked intense speculation that King Ghidorah could make his presence known.
One of the biggest clues comes toward the end of the trailer, when Kanji Murakami, played by Min Tanaka, delivers an ominous line suggesting that the threat being discussed isn’t actually Godzilla. The moment is followed by an intense sequence involving Godzilla before the film’s title appears.
Fans have also noticed mysterious blue waves appearing around aircraft in several shots. Some viewers believe the imagery could be connected to the gravity-based abilities historically associated with King Ghidorah.
There is another intriguing connection: King Ghidorah has previously been referred to as Monster Zero, leading some fans to believe the title Godzilla Minus Zero could contain a deliberate hint toward the legendary three-headed monster.
For now, however, Ghidorah’s involvement remains firmly in the realm of speculation. There has been no official confirmation that the character—or any second kaiju—will appear in the movie.
Godzilla’s Return
What is confirmed is that Godzilla is back, and the sequel appears ready to once again blend spectacular monster action with the human drama that helped make Godzilla Minus One such a success.
The story is set in post-war Japan in 1949, two years after the events of the previous movie. Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe return, while the cast also includes Min Tanaka, Masami Nagasawa and Jun Kunimura.
Yamazaki has previously indicated that he wanted to approach the sequel differently from the traditional escalation formula. Rather than simply introducing a bigger and more powerful monster, the filmmaker has focused on bringing back the fear and trauma associated with Godzilla.
That approach could make the possibility of King Ghidorah even more interesting. If another kaiju really is hiding within the story, it could dramatically change the direction of the sequel.

Release?
Godzilla Minus Zero is scheduled to arrive in Japanese cinemas on November 3, 2026, before its North American theatrical release on November 6. The movie will also be released in IMAX.
Whether the trailer is genuinely hiding King Ghidorah or simply sending fans down a very elaborate rabbit hole, Godzilla Minus Zero is shaping up to be one of the year’s biggest monster movie events.
And if the mysterious clues really are pointing toward Monster Zero, audiences could be in for a much bigger surprise than expected.
