Peacock has unveiled the first trailer for Crystal Lake, offering an unsettling first look at Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees. The upcoming horror series explores the tragic events surrounding Jason Voorhees’ death and the mystery behind the woman who would eventually become one of horror’s most infamous killers.
Set before the events of the original Friday the 13th, the series follows Pam as she struggles to cope with the loss of her young son. As she attempts to move forward, a disturbing investigation begins to uncover secrets from her past, suggesting that the tragedy at Crystal Lake is far from over.
According to the trailer, the story is set in 1971, nearly a year after Jason drowns at Crystal Lake. The town initially appears calm, with Pam trying to rebuild her life while carrying the weight of her grief. But beneath the peaceful surface, something darker is beginning to emerge. Tense encounters, disturbing imagery, and sudden flashes of violence hint at the events that will eventually transform Pam’s life forever.
The arrival of two strangers further complicates matters. Their questions about Pam’s history quickly make the townspeople suspicious, setting the stage for a mystery that gradually shifts the story from one mother’s devastating grief to the origins of a legendary horror legacy.
Crystal Lake serves as a prequel to the original Friday the 13th film, with Cardellini portraying Pam and Callum Vinson playing a young Jason Voorhees. Brad Caleb Kane created the series and serves as its writer and showrunner.
The original Friday the 13th premiered in 1980 and famously revealed Pam as the killer responsible for the murders at Camp Crystal Lake. Her actions were driven by the trauma of losing Jason years earlier. By going back to the period before the original film, Crystal Lake aims to explore Pam’s life, her relationship with Jason, and the experiences that ultimately lead her down a dark path.
The series will also expand the world of Crystal Lake with a mix of new and familiar characters. William Catlett stars as Officer Levon Brooks, while Devin Kessler plays his journalist sister, Brianna. Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom are also part of the main cast, alongside characters connected to the original Friday the 13th mythology.
Produced by A24, Crystal Lake will consist of eight episodes and premiere on Peacock on October 15, 2026. Michael Lennox, Celine Held, Logan George, and Quyen Tran are directing episodes of the series.
With its focus on Pam’s psychological unraveling and the tragedy surrounding Jason’s death, Crystal Lake promises to expand the mythology of Friday the 13th while offering a deeper look at the events that helped create one of horror’s most recognizable villains.
