Kristin Cavallari is heading back into the world of scripted film, with the Laguna Beach and The Hills star set to lead Roku’s upcoming romantic comedy Cowboy Hearts.
Cavallari will star opposite The Bold and the Beautiful actor Tanner Novlan in the new film, which is expected to premiere on The Roku Channel in early 2027. The project marks Cavallari’s return to a feature-film leading role after more than 17 years.
In Cowboy Hearts, Cavallari plays a no-nonsense reality television producer who travels to Georgia to oversee the reboot of a popular dating series also called Cowboy Hearts. While she expects plenty of behind-the-scenes drama, she doesn’t anticipate developing romantic feelings for the cowboy at the centre of the show, played by Novlan.
With production underway and her professional future on the line, Cavallari’s character finds herself caught between following the script and taking a chance on an unexpected romance.
The casting also gives Cavallari an opportunity to play a character whose career closely mirrors an area she knows particularly well. After becoming a household name through MTV’s Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and The Hills, she went on to star in reality series including Very Cavallari and Honestly Cavallari. She has also built a career as an entrepreneur, podcast host and author.
Cavallari recently reunited with Roku for The Reunion: Laguna Beach, bringing together members of the original MTV cast. That collaboration paved the way for her latest project with the streamer. Roku previously described the Laguna Beach reunion as a major success for the platform.
For Novlan, Cowboy Hearts provides another opportunity to explore romantic-comedy territory away from his long-running role as Dr. John “Finn” Finnegan on The Bold and the Beautiful. The actor has also appeared in several television romantic comedies and holiday films.
Cowboy Hearts is directed by Traci Hays and written by Paris Herbert-Taylor. FOX Entertainment Studios is producing the film, with FOX Entertainment Global handling international distribution.
The movie is currently scheduled to arrive on The Roku Channel in early 2027.
