The alligators are heading back to the big screen.
Paramount Pictures has officially set a July 16, 2027 theatrical release date for its upcoming sequel to the 2019 creature-feature hit Crawl, with Scream star Mason Gooding and Stranger Things actress Emily Rudd attached to lead the cast.
The follow-up will once again be directed by Alexandre Aja, who helmed the original Crawl. While Paramount has yet to reveal an official title or detailed plot synopsis, the project is expected to deliver another survival-focused horror story built around the franchise’s signature threat: deadly alligators.
Released in 2019, Crawl followed Haley Keller, played by Kaya Scodelario, as she became trapped inside her family home during a catastrophic hurricane and rising floodwaters. Her attempt to rescue her injured father quickly turned into a fight for survival when the flooded house became infested with enormous alligators.
The film proved to be a strong performer at the box office, earning approximately $91 million worldwide against a reported $13.5 million budget, helping establish Crawl as one of the more successful creature-horror releases of its era.
The sequel appears set to expand the franchise beyond the confined setting of the original. Reports indicate that the new story could bring the alligator action into New York City, with the city’s streets and sewer system potentially becoming the latest hunting ground. Production reportedly began filming in August 2026.
Gooding and Rudd previously appeared together in the 2022 romantic comedy Moonshot, making their reunion for a much darker genre project an intriguing addition to the sequel.
Behind the scenes, Aja is also producing alongside Sam Raimi and Craig Flores. The screenplay comes from Jason Harry Pagan, Andrew Deutschman, Alexandre Aja and Gregory Levasseur. Paramount Pictures will distribute the film.
While story details remain under wraps, the combination of a new cast, a returning director and a potentially much larger setting suggests that the Crawl sequel is looking to take the franchise beyond the claustrophobic survival scenario that defined the original.
Fans will have to wait until July 16, 2027 to find out whether the next chapter can make the alligator-infested world of Crawl even more terrifying.
