Sony Pictures and Will Gluck’s Olive Bridge Entertainment have cast Amélie Hoeferle and Graham Campbell as the leads in Fake Skating, an upcoming film adaptation of Lynn Painter’s New York Times bestselling novel.
Josh Boone, who was recently announced as the film’s director, will helm the project. Morgan Lehmann and Victoria Bata wrote the original screenplay, with Boone and his longtime writing partner Knate Lee later brought in to revise the script.
Painter shared the casting news on social media, announcing the two rising stars who will lead the highly anticipated adaptation.
Slated for a summer 2027 theatrical release, Fake Skating is an emotional high school hockey romance centered on childhood sweethearts who find themselves reunited in their hockey-obsessed hometown. When the pair agree to fake a romantic relationship, their carefully constructed arrangement begins to thaw old feelings and unresolved emotions.
Deadline first reported Sony Pictures’ involvement in the project in March. The studio subsequently moved quickly to bring Boone aboard after the filmmaker expressed strong interest in the material.
Following the film’s greenlight, Boone spent the remainder of the summer auditioning actors for the two lead roles. After an extensive search, Boone and the studio’s executives ultimately selected Hoeferle and Campbell to headline the adaptation.
With its young cast, bestselling source material and hockey-centered romance, Fake Skating is shaping up as one of Sony Pictures’ upcoming young-adult film projects ahead of its 2027 release.
