Nicolas Cage and Christian Bale are stepping into the world of American football history, with the first full trailer for Madden offering a closer look at their striking transformations into NFL icons John Madden and Al Davis.
Directed by David O. Russell, the upcoming sports biopic follows Madden’s remarkable journey from celebrated NFL coach to one of the most recognisable voices in American sports. Cage takes on the titular role, portraying Madden across several stages of his career, while Bale stars as Davis, the legendary Oakland Raiders owner.
The new trailer explores the relationship between Madden and Davis, including their successful partnership with the Raiders that ultimately led to a Super Bowl XI victory. It also highlights Madden’s transition away from coaching and his rise as a hugely influential television commentator.
One of the film’s central storylines is Madden’s unexpected connection to the video game industry. After leaving the sidelines, his football expertise and personality became instrumental in the development of the Madden NFL video game franchise, which would eventually become one of the biggest names in sports gaming.
The trailer also introduces John Mulaney as Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins, who approaches Madden with the idea of creating a football video game capable of capturing the strategy and complexity of the sport. Shane Gillis also appears in the ensemble cast.
Kathryn Hahn stars as Virginia Madden, while Sienna Miller portrays Carol Davis. The cast additionally features Joel Murray and other supporting players.
Russell directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Cambron Clark. The filmmaker previously worked with Bale on The Fighter, American Hustle and Amsterdam.
Running for approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes, Madden combines sports drama, comedy and biographical storytelling as it explores the personalities and professional relationship behind one of football’s most enduring legacies.
Madden will arrive in select Australian and international theatres from November 11, 2026, before making its worldwide streaming debut on Prime Video on November 18, 2026.
