Shudder has released the official trailer for V/H/S/Mixtape, the latest entry in its acclaimed V/H/S horror anthology franchise. The new installment promises another disturbing collection of found-footage nightmares, this time with music and sound at the center of the terror.
V/H/S/Mixtape is set to make its world premiere at Beyond Fest next Wednesday before arriving exclusively on Shudder on Friday, October 9. The film marks the ninth installment in the long-running horror anthology series.
The latest entry brings together an eclectic group of filmmakers and artists, including renowned director Ernest Dickerson, hip-hop icon RZA, filmmaker David Moreau, and acclaimed director Renee Zhan. Musician and filmmaker Flying Lotus also contributes music-video interludes to the anthology alongside filmmaker Tobias Forge.
The newly released trailer begins with an unsettling sequence featuring characters from a children’s television program. One character cheerfully announces, “It’s time to sing the songs,” before the seemingly innocent scene abruptly cuts to the horrifying scream of a woman bound to a chair.
From there, the trailer launches into a rapid-fire montage of the anthology’s various found-footage segments. The preview showcases a series of brutal and unsettling moments, including a killer wielding a chainsaw inside a recording studio, a helpless man strapped to a table as another figure prepares to torture him, and several other disturbing images that hint at the gruesome horrors awaiting viewers.
According to Shudder, V/H/S/Mixtape takes the franchise’s signature found-footage formula in a new direction by exploring the terrifying power of music, rhythm, and sound. The anthology will combine cosmic horror, psychological suspense, graphic violence, and practical effects, with each segment exploring how audio can haunt, possess, transform, and ultimately destroy its victims.
With its mix of unsettling imagery, visceral gore, and music-driven horror, V/H/S/Mixtape looks set to deliver another twisted collection of nightmares for fans of the franchise.
