The long-rumored collaboration is officially happening: Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence is set to star in The Flood, the upcoming sci-fi thriller from Weapons filmmaker Zach Cregger. Warner Bros.’ New Line Cinema has set the film for release on August 11, 2028.
Cregger, who will write, direct and produce the project, is developing the film from his own original idea. The announcement comes as the filmmaker’s upcoming Resident Evil movie for Sony and Constantin continues its box-office run, recently surpassing $200 million worldwide.
“Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most gifted and compelling actors working today, and we are thrilled to have her at the center of Zach’s bold and wholly original vision for The Flood,” Warner Bros. Motion Picture chairs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy said in a statement.
“Following our extraordinary experience together on Weapons, we could not be more excited to reunite with Zach and the team at Vertigo, as well as Amblin, to bring this ambitious film to audiences around the world.”
Cregger also expressed his excitement about reuniting with the studio following Weapons.
“Mike, Pam and the whole Warner Bros./New Line team were an absolute dream to collaborate with on Weapons, and I couldn’t be happier to dive in with them again,” Cregger said. “Jennifer is one of a kind, and I’m beyond excited to see her in this role.”
The Flood is being produced by Amblin Entertainment alongside Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment. Plot details remain tightly under wraps, leaving much of the film’s story and Lawrence’s character a mystery for now.
The project marks another major collaboration between Cregger and New Line following Weapons, while Lawrence’s involvement adds a major star to the filmmaker’s next original feature.
