First Look At Prime Video Series ‘Barbershop’ Starring Jermaine Fowler

Prime Video has announced a February 10 premiere date for its upcoming Barbershop comedy series, starring Jermaine Fowler. Inspired by the popular film franchise, the eight-episode series will debut exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

The streamer has also unveiled two first-look photos from the series, offering a glimpse at Fowler and the new cast of characters.

Fowler stars as Travis “Trav” Walker, who returns to Chicago determined to carry on his grandfather’s legacy at the iconic Calvin’s barbershop. However, the neighborhood—and the shop itself—has changed. As Trav adjusts to life with a new generation of barbers and familiar loyal customers, he finds himself trying to figure out where he belongs.

Despite the changes, Calvin’s remains a gathering place where conversations are just as important as the haircuts. From sharp fades to even sharper opinions, the barbershop continues to serve as the heart of its community.

The series features an ensemble cast that includes Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye and Langston Kerman. Guest stars include Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, Diallo Riddle, Ziwe, Tituss Burgess, comedian CP, Devon Walker and Belmont Cameli.

Barbershop comes from Amazon MGM Studios, MGM Television, Hartbeat, Busy B Entertainment, Prominent Productions and State Street Pictures. Marshall Todd, who co-wrote the original Barbershop film, serves as a writer, co-showrunner and executive producer alongside co-showrunner and executive producer Max Searle.

Executive producers also include Kevin Hart, Bryan Smiley, Mike Stein and Tiffany Brown for Hartbeat; Bradley Gardner for Busy B Entertainment; Cameron Burnett and Autumn Bailey-Ford for Prominent Productions; George L. Tillman and Robert Teitel for State Street Pictures; Fowler; and Oz Rodriguez, who also directs. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.

The new series expands the Barbershop franchise, which began with the 2002 film starring Ice Cube as Calvin, a Chicago barbershop owner struggling to keep his family business afloat. After Calvin sells the shop to a local loan shark, he begins to reconsider what the business—and its community—means to him.

The original film was followed by Barbershop 2: Back in Business in 2004, Beauty Shop in 2005, a spinoff starring Queen Latifah, and Barbershop: The Next Cut in 2016.

Across its four films, the Barbershop franchise has grossed more than $235 million worldwide. The upcoming Prime Video series will bring the franchise back to its Chicago roots while introducing a new generation of characters and stories.
