Netflix Sells ‘Every House Is Haunted’ to 20th Century Studios

Netflix has sold the supernatural thriller Every House Is Haunted to 20th Century Studios, four years after acquiring the genre project from screenwriters Jason Pagan and Andrew Deutschman.

Based on Ian Rogers’ short story “The House on Ashley Avenue,” the film was originally developed at Netflix after the streamer acquired the rights in 2021. The project was previously set to be directed by Corin Hardy.

Adam Schindler and Brian Netto, the directing duo behind Netflix’s 2024 thriller Don’t Move, are now attached to direct Every House Is Haunted and will also take on a rewrite of Pagan and Deutschman’s screenplay.

The story follows an insurance investigator tasked with disproving claims that a couple’s deaths were caused by a haunted house. His skepticism begins to fade after he encounters a psychic and experiences a series of inexplicable events himself.

Sam Raimi and Zainab Azizi will produce for Raimi Productions, while Roy Lee and Andrew Childs will produce for Vertigo Entertainment. Rogers and Starlight Media, which originally helped launch development by optioning the source material, will executive produce.

At 20th Century Studios, Senior Vice President of Production J.R. Young is overseeing the project and will report to studio president Steve Asbell.

Schindler and Netto previously made their feature directing debut with Don’t Move, starring Kelsey Asbille and Finn Wittrock. The thriller topped Netflix’s global film chart during its first two weeks on the platform. Asbille stars as a grieving woman who is injected with a paralytic drug and must evade her attacker while racing against the clock as the effects of the drug take hold.

Don’t Move was written by T.J. Cimfel and David White and produced by Raimi and Azizi, among others.

The filmmakers are currently in post-production on Nightwatching, a survival thriller starring Mila Kunis and Corey Hawkins. Produced by Ridley Scott, the film comes from Scott Free, Fifth Season, Picturestart and Brick For Sheep, with Amazon MGM Studios handling international distribution.

Schindler and Netto are represented by Gersh and Persistent, while Rogers is represented by Story Driven.
