Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for Gentle Monster, an upcoming crime thriller starring acclaimed French actress Léa Seydoux. Directed by Austrian filmmaker Marie Kreutzer, the film explores the devastating consequences of a seemingly ordinary family being torn apart by a shocking police investigation.

Seydoux stars as Lucy, a concert pianist who moves with her family to a country house in the hope of giving her husband, Philip (Laurence Rupp), a much-needed fresh start. Struggling with severe burnout, Philip is hoping that the change of scenery will help him recover and allow the family to rebuild their lives.

However, their plans quickly unravel when police arrive at their doorstep one morning with a warrant for Philip’s arrest. Suddenly confronted with the possibility that her husband may have committed a serious crime, Lucy finds herself caught between her love for him and the horrifying uncertainty surrounding his alleged actions.

The newly released trailer offers a glimpse into Lucy’s increasingly complicated situation, as she struggles to reconcile the man she loves with the possibility that he may be capable of something terrible.

Opening with Lucy discussing the influence of love songs written and performed by men, the trailer establishes an intriguing connection between her musical career and the film’s exploration of relationships, love and the secrets people keep. As the story unfolds, glimpses of the family’s seemingly peaceful life are contrasted with the emotional turmoil that follows Philip’s arrest.

With her world falling apart, Lucy must confront difficult questions about her marriage and the person she thought she knew. The trailer hints at an unsettling psychological journey as she attempts to make sense of the accusations against her husband while navigating the consequences for herself and her family.

Alongside Seydoux and Rupp, Gentle Monster features an impressive international cast, including Catherine Deneuve, Jella Haase, Sylvester Groth, Katharina Lorenz, Jeanne Werner and Regina Fritsch.

The film also features an original musical score by French singer-songwriter and composer Camille, adding another dimension to this intimate crime drama.

Written and directed by Marie Kreutzer, Gentle Monster is produced by Johanna Scherz and Alexander Glehr, with Timo Argillander, Kristina Börjeson, Naomi Despres, Fionnuala Jamison, Nathanaël Karmitz, Michèle Marshall and Andrea Scarso serving as executive producers.

Gentle Monster will receive a limited theatrical release on October 30, 2026, before making its streaming debut on Netflix on November 18, 2026.

With its exploration of love, trust and the devastating impact of unexpected revelations, Gentle Monster promises a gripping story centred on a woman forced to question everything she believes about her family.
