Jennifer Lawrence is set to reunite with No Hard Feelings director Gene Stupnitsky for her upcoming romantic comedy One Month Mark.
Stupnitsky is in final negotiations to direct the Apple Original Films and Chernin Entertainment project, which has Lawrence attached to star and produce through her production company, Excellent Cadaver. Sophie Fleur de Bruijn wrote the screenplay.
The contemporary romantic comedy follows two people on opposite ends of the dating spectrum: she has never managed to stay in a relationship for more than a month, while he has never gone more than a month without being in one. Their contrasting approaches to romance set the stage for what promises to be an unconventional love story.
Apple Studios will produce the film, with Chernin Entertainment’s David Ready and Peter Chernin serving as producers. Lawrence and her producing partner Justine Ciarrocchi will produce through Excellent Cadaver. De Bruijn and Brady Fujikawa are executive producers.
The project generated significant interest during a summer bidding war. More than 40 producers reportedly pursued the spec script, including major production companies with studio partnerships, independent financiers and genre-focused labels looking to make their first move into romantic comedy. Studios and streaming services also submitted unsolicited offers.
The attention only intensified as high-profile actors and directors sought meetings on the project. Lawrence ultimately emerged as a key piece of the package, and Apple Studios soon joined the film. With Stupnitsky now attached to direct, the next major step will be finding Lawrence’s co-star — a role expected to attract considerable interest from actors.
The director search was similarly extensive, with producers and studio executives meeting with numerous candidates. Lawrence ultimately pushed for a reunion with Stupnitsky following their experience making No Hard Feelings. The pair had expressed interest in collaborating again, and Lawrence believed he was the right filmmaker to bring One Month Mark to the screen.
Stupnitsky has continued to build his reputation in comedy since directing the 2019 Universal film Good Boys. He later co-created the Emmy-nominated series Jury Duty and has writing credits on comedies including Bad Teacher. He is currently producing Sony’s comedy Narcs.
