Sony Pictures is in negotiations to acquire the feature film rights to Electronic Arts’ hit video game franchise Battlefield, with Michael B. Jordan attached to produce and potentially star in the project.

Mission: Impossible filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie is also on board to direct, write the screenplay and produce the film.

Plot details are currently being kept under wraps, and Sony Pictures has declined to comment on the project.

The film is expected to feature a high-profile producing team that includes Electronic Arts’ Jesse Stern, Emerald Neon’s Carter Swan, Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon, as well as Outlier Society president Elizabeth Raposo.

The Battlefield franchise is one of EA’s long-running first-person shooter series, known for its large-scale multiplayer combat spanning land, air and sea. The games have explored a variety of historical and futuristic settings, including both World Wars, the Vietnam War and near-future conflicts.

Since its debut with Battlefield 1942, the franchise has become a major commercial success, selling tens of millions of copies worldwide.

The potential film would mark another major video game adaptation for Hollywood as studios continue to develop feature projects based on established gaming franchises.
