Some people have a good week. Dakota Johnson is having a full-on highlight reel. Her twisty thriller Verity just took the box office crown, Taylor Swift just pulled back the curtain on their “Patient Zero” music video, and tonight, Saturday, Oct. 3, she heads back to Studio 8H to host Saturday Night Live for the third time.
The episode airs live coast to coast at 11:30 p.m. ET / 8:30 p.m. PT on NBC and Peacock, and streams the next day on Peacock. It’s the second show of Season 52, following last week’s premiere with first-time host Jalen Brunson and musical guest KATSEYE.
Inside Taylor Swift’s ‘Patient Zero’ Expanded Video
Johnson’s big night lands on the same day Swift dropped “Patient Zero (Expanded Video),” an eight-minute behind-the-scenes cut now on Apple Music as part of the Patient Zero (Video Bundle). Swift shared the link on her Instagram Stories on Saturday.
Swift directed the video, which premiered at the 2026 MTV VMAs on Sept. 27. Johnson plays a woman whose health starts to fail while she’s married to Colin Farrell’s character, and Swift appears as the ghost of his former wife, warning Johnson about the man she married.
The expanded cut opens with Swift declaring, “I’ve been wanting to make this video my entire life,” as she describes a sleek, monochromatic world where the audience can’t quite tell what’s wrong with the couple until suddenly they can. Think ghost story meets true crime.
From there, it’s Swift in full director mode, visibly giddy behind the camera as she walks Johnson and Farrell through their scenes. Johnson, for her part, gets candid about mixing work and friendship: “Sometimes when you work with your friends it can really go south, and it will affect your friendship. But she and I work really well together.”
The receipts follow. The two goof around on set while rehearsing the underwater sequence, twinning in matching black swimsuits in an outdoor pool overlooking Los Angeles. Farrell, who describes his character as a “narcissist” and a “psychopath,” is all praise for his director: “The joy she has with her creative engine, which is a really significant creative engine, the joy she has with it is really quite humbling, actually. It’s very moving.”
Swift also gives a loving (and very Swiftian) shout-out to Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel “El Chivo” Lubezki: “His name is Chivo. They call him that because it means goat, ’cause he’s the f—king goat.”
“Patient Zero” is one of four new songs on The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, alongside “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon.” The expanded cut is streaming on Apple Music, and the official music video is below.
Third Time in Studio 8H, Plus Turnstile’s Debut
Johnson first hosted in Season 40 on Feb. 28, 2015, then returned in Season 49 on Jan. 27, 2024. She has made no secret of how much she loves it. Visiting The Tonight Show in 2024, she told Jimmy Fallon she’d had such a blast the first time that she wanted to join the cast: “I’ll quit my job and just do this every day.” The official promos, featuring cast member Ashley Padilla, are already out, and NBC is billing her as “famously (and hilariously) deadpan.”
Tonight’s musical guest is Turnstile, making its SNL debut. The Baltimore five-piece won two Grammys in February, Best Rock Album for NEVER ENOUGH and Best Metal Performance for “BIRDS,” and is currently on its Never Enough Tour Pt. 2, supporting the album and its 2026 remix companion, NEVER ENOUGH: Versions.
Next week, Shane Gillis returns for his third time as host on Oct. 10, with Rosalía back as musical guest for the second time. But first, Dakota’s victory lap. Live from New York, it’s her week.
