Haley Lu Richardson Joins Miami Vice ’85 as Sony Pictures’ Narcs Adds Three Cast Members

Hollywood is seeing new casting developments for two upcoming films, with Haley Lu Richardson joining Universal Pictures’ crime drama Miami Vice ’85 and Sony Pictures adding three actors to its coming-of-age comedy Narcs.

Richardson, known for her performances in The White Lotus Season 2, Ponies and other projects, has joined the cast of Miami Vice ’85. Her role has not yet been disclosed. She joins a star-studded ensemble led by Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, who will portray undercover detectives Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs and James “Sonny” Crockett, respectively.

Based on the NBC crime drama created by Anthony Yerkovich, Miami Vice ’85 draws inspiration from the original series’ pilot episode, “Brother’s Keeper.” The film will explore the glamour and corruption of Miami during the mid-1980s, following the two detectives as they navigate the criminal underworld of South Florida. Further plot details remain under wraps.

The film is currently in production and is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 19, 2028. It is produced by Dylan Clark of Dylan Clark Productions, whose credits include The Batman and The Penguin, alongside Kosinski, known for F1. Gilroy wrote the screenplay based on characters created by Yerkovich. The original television series was executive produced by Yerkovich and Michael Mann, while Eric Warren Singer penned an earlier draft of the film’s script. Universal executives Sara Scott, Executive Vice President of Production Development, and Christina Hoffrogge, Creative Executive of Production Development, are overseeing the project for the studio.

Meanwhile, Sony Pictures has expanded the cast of Narcs, its upcoming coming-of-age comedy, with three new additions. Callan Farris, known for Grimcutty, has secured the third lead role opposite Mason Thames and Ella Bright. Lexi Minetree, who appeared in Elle, and Josh Macqueen, who will appear in the upcoming Thunder Road, have also joined the project.

As with Miami Vice ’85, details about the characters and storyline of Narcs are being kept confidential.

Narcs is scheduled for a theatrical release on August 20, 2027, and will mark the directorial debut of John Phillips. Phillips previously wrote the R-rated comedies No Hard Feelings, Good Boys and Dirty Grandpa. He is directing from a screenplay by Jordan and Justin Shipley, the creators of the TBS comedy series Wrecked, with Phillips and his frequent collaborator Gene Stupnitsky contributing a rewrite.

Stupnitsky is producing the film through his Big Name Entertainment banner, with Robert Lamonaca serving as executive producer for the company. Phillips and Joseph Micucci are also executive producing.

Farris brings experience across film and television to the project, with credits including Kings and Grimcutty, as well as Disney Channel’s Gabby Duran & The Unsittables and Disney Jr.’s animated series The Rocketeer. He is represented by Coast to Coast Talent Group, Protégé Entertainment and Myman Greenspan Fox.

With new talent joining both productions, Miami Vice ’85 and Narcs are continuing to build their casts ahead of their respective theatrical releases in 2028 and 2027.
