Aaron Guzikowski to Write New ‘Alien’ Film Linked to Prometheus and Alien: Covenant

In space, no one may hear you scream, but the sound of a keyboard could soon help bring a new Alien story to life.

Aaron Guzikowski, the screenwriter behind Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners, has been tapped to write a new mystery project set in the Alien universe for 20th Century Studios, with franchise veteran Ridley Scott attached as a producer.

The project reunites Guzikowski and Scott, who previously collaborated on the acclaimed science-fiction series Raised by Wolves, which streamed on HBO Max. Guzikowski created the series, while Scott served as an executive producer and directed its first two episodes, marking his return to television directing after decades focused on filmmaking.

Scott will produce the upcoming Alien project alongside Michael Pruss through their Scott Free production company. However, Scott is not currently expected to direct the film, and no director has been announced.

Although plot details remain tightly under wraps, the new project is reportedly not a sequel to Alien: Romulus, the 2024 installment that helped revitalize the long-running franchise. Plans for a follow-up to Romulus remain uncertain.

Instead, the mystery project is said to have connections to Scott’s previous entries in the franchise, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, both released in the 2010s. According to sources, the central link could be the morally questionable android portrayed by Michael Fassbender. However, Fassbender has not been officially attached to the project at this stage.

Sources indicate that Scott approached Guzikowski to help get the new Alien film moving forward. J.R. Young is overseeing the project for 20th Century Studios.

Guzikowski has built a reputation for crafting dark, intense stories and complex characters. His screenwriting credits include Prisoners, the 2013 thriller starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, which follows the desperate search for two missing children. He also wrote the 2017 remake of Papillon, starring Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek.

Beyond film, Guzikowski created and executive produced The Red Road, a drama series starring Jason Momoa that aired on the Sundance Channel. His experience with character-driven storytelling and morally complex science fiction could make him a compelling choice to explore another chapter of the Alien universe.

With the story still shrouded in secrecy and key casting and directing decisions yet to be made, further details about the project have not been revealed. For now, fans will have to wait to discover how the new film will expand the franchise’s mythology and potentially revisit the android storyline introduced in Scott’s earlier films.
