Olivia Holt (Heart Eyes), Jaimie Alexander (Thor) and Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends) are joining forces for Survive: The Game, a new horror thriller directed by Scout Taylor-Compton. Currently filming in Spain, the feature promises a chilling battle for survival built around a mysterious board game with deadly consequences.
The film is being directed by Taylor-Compton, best known to horror fans for portraying Laurie Strode in Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Halloween II. She co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Kennedy, whose previous writing credits include Heart Eyes and Freaky.
A Board Game With Deadly Consequences
Survive: The Game follows a group of friends who discover an ancient board game hidden inside a secluded cabin with a violent history. What initially appears to be an unusual discovery quickly turns into a terrifying ordeal as every roll of the dice brings a deadly fate to life.
With their lives hanging in the balance, the group must finish the game if they hope to survive. The premise combines supernatural horror with a confined setting, placing its characters in an increasingly dangerous situation where their next move could be their last.
The film also explores the psychological side of survival, with Taylor-Compton suggesting that the greatest threat may come from within rather than simply from whatever lurks outside.
Drawing on her experience playing some of horror’s most recognisable survivors, the filmmaker is approaching the story from a different perspective, examining what happens when confronting personal demons becomes just as important as escaping a physical threat.
A Cast With Strong Horror Credentials
Holt, who recently starred in the romantic slasher Heart Eyes, continues to build her presence in the horror genre. The actress is also known for her role as Tandy Bowen, also known as Dagger, in Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, alongside appearances in Cruel Summer and Totally Killer.
Alexander brings extensive genre experience to the project. Audiences will recognise her as Lady Sif from the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thor films, while television viewers may know her best for leading the crime drama Blindspot as Jane Doe. Her film credits also include Rest Stop and Last Seen Alive.
Campbell has established himself as a familiar face among horror audiences, earning attention for his portrayal of Corey Cunningham in Halloween Ends. His more recent genre work includes The Monkey and Silent Night, Deadly Night, alongside his appearance in the Netflix series Below.
Together, the three actors bring a mix of horror, action and thriller experience to a project that aims to deliver both supernatural scares and psychological tension.
Scout Taylor-Compton Steps Behind the Camera
For Taylor-Compton, Survive: The Game represents another opportunity to expand her filmmaking career after years of working in front of the camera. Beyond her acting work, she has written and directed Road to Recovery and co-directed Last Chance Motel.
Her experience within the horror genre has helped shape the film’s approach to survival and fear, with the director interested in exploring what happens when a character’s internal struggles become part of the nightmare.
Producer Randy Wayne praised Taylor-Compton’s work, highlighting her attention to detail and commitment to filmmaking. He also expressed confidence in the film’s potential to introduce audiences to inventive and frightening antagonists.
The production is being handled by Randy Wayne and Talia Bella for Rebellium Films, Taylor-Compton and Tom O’Connell for Building Blocks Productions, and Amy Covell for Red Phoenix Productions. Executive producers include Leire Apellaniz, Mark Albela, Michael Kennedy and Dauntless Productions.
Filming Underway in Spain
Production on Survive: The Game is currently taking place in Spain, with filming based at Zinealdea Studios in Gipuzkoa and on location in Irún.
The project is also being developed with franchise potential in mind, although further details about possible future instalments have not been announced.
With its deadly game, isolated setting and cast of established genre performers, Survive: The Game is shaping up as another horror project to watch. A release date and further distribution details have yet to be confirmed.
