Gemma Arterton is stepping into the world of international espionage in Secret Service, a gripping new thriller that places British intelligence, political corruption and a potential Russian conspiracy at the centre of its story.
The first-look trailer for the ITV drama teases a tense investigation in which uncovering the truth could have devastating consequences. Adapted from the novel by ITV News presenter and author Tom Bradby, the five-part series follows a senior MI6 officer whose latest intelligence operation threatens to expose a traitor at the highest levels of British government.
Arterton stars as Kate Henderson, a seemingly ordinary civil servant, wife and mother of two who secretly leads the Russia Desk at the Secret Intelligence Service. When an undercover operation uncovers evidence suggesting that a prominent British politician could be working as a Russian asset, Kate finds herself caught in a dangerous race to identify the individual before the consequences spiral out of control.
As the investigation intensifies, the boundaries between professional duty and personal life begin to blur. A brutal murder further complicates the situation, putting Kate’s team under scrutiny while forcing her to protect her family, her career and her own reputation.
The series explores the increasingly complicated relationship between the United Kingdom and Russia, examining the potential threat of foreign interference in British politics. With shifting loyalties and mounting suspicion, Secret Service promises a suspenseful look at the people operating behind the scenes of international power.
Joining Arterton is an impressive ensemble cast featuring Rafe Spall as her husband, Stuart Henderson, alongside Mark Stanley, Alex Kingston, Roger Allam, Amaka Okafor, Khalid Abdalla, Rochenda Sandall, Avi Nash and Aoife Hinds.
The series reunites Bradby with Oscar-winning director James Marsh, who directs the first three episodes. Marsh is known for Man on Wire and The Theory of Everything, while Farren Blackburn directs the remaining two episodes. Bradby co-wrote the series with Jemma Kennedy.
Produced by Potboiler Productions, Secret Service was filmed in London and Malta, bringing an international backdrop to its story of intelligence gathering, political intrigue and personal sacrifice.
Secret Service premiered on ITV in the UK in April 2026, with the series also set to reach international audiences. The trailer offers a glimpse of a timely espionage drama in which the greatest danger may not come from an enemy overseas, but from someone operating within the very institutions tasked with protecting the country.
