Justin Timberlake to Explore His Past in New Apple TV Docuseries Featuring Janet Jackson

Justin Timberlake is reportedly preparing to revisit some of the most talked-about moments of his career in a new four-part docuseries for Apple TV, with Janet Jackson expected to feature in a discussion of their controversial 2004 Super Bowl halftime performance.

According to Variety, the upcoming project is being described as a “tell-all” series and is expected to premiere in December. Three sources reportedly confirmed the project, although details surrounding its format and content remain limited.

One source claims Jackson will discuss the infamous wardrobe malfunction that occurred during her performance alongside Timberlake at Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004. The incident became one of the most controversial moments in live television history and sparked widespread debate about broadcast standards, celebrity accountability and the music industry’s treatment of women.

The performance saw Timberlake pull away part of Jackson’s costume during the closing moments of their routine, briefly exposing her breast on live television. Although both performers faced public scrutiny, Jackson experienced significant professional consequences, while Timberlake’s career continued to flourish.

The incident has since been reconsidered through a broader cultural lens, with renewed criticism of the unequal backlash directed at the two artists. In 2021, Timberlake publicly apologised to Jackson and his former girlfriend Britney Spears, acknowledging that he had benefited from an industry that often favoured men at women’s expense.

The forthcoming docuseries may also address Timberlake’s personal history. According to another source cited by Variety, the singer will reportedly respond to some of Spears’ recent comments. Spears discussed their relationship extensively in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, sharing personal revelations about their time together and the pressures surrounding their high-profile romance.

The series is being directed by Fisher Stevens, whose previous documentary work includes projects exploring prominent figures in entertainment and sport. However, representatives for Timberlake, Jackson and Apple had not publicly commented on the project at the time of reporting.

The reported announcement arrives during a relatively quiet period for Timberlake, whose most recent studio album, Everything I Thought It Was, was released in March 2024. His Forget Tomorrow World Tour concluded in July 2025, following a run affected by personal and health challenges.

That same month, Timberlake revealed that he had been diagnosed with Lyme disease, explaining that the condition had affected him physically and mentally while he continued performing on tour.

With Jackson’s reported involvement and the possibility of Timberlake addressing his past relationships, the upcoming series could offer a fresh perspective on several defining chapters of his public life. Whether it will provide meaningful reflection on the controversies that have followed him remains to be seen.

The four-part docuseries is reportedly scheduled to arrive on Apple TV in December 2026. Its official title and further details have yet to be announced.
