Director Ry Russo-Young, best known for Before I Fall (2017), is gearing up for her next feature film, the upcoming horror thriller Get Rid of It, written by Gemma Holdway.
The film has assembled an impressive cast, with Daisy Ridley (Star Wars, Ebenezer), Sosie Bacon (Smile, Scarpetta) and Simon Rex (Red Rocket, Blink Twice) set to star. The project is backed by Oscar-nominated producer David Lancaster, whose previous credits include Whiplash, Nightcrawler and Drive. Production is expected to begin in early 2027.
Get Rid of It follows Harper (Ridley) and her sister Jessie (Bacon), who set off on a cross-country road trip after Harper discovers she is pregnant following a one-night stand with a mysterious drifter named Miller (Rex).
However, what begins as a journey between two sisters quickly turns into a terrifying fight for survival when they discover that the thing growing inside Harper may be far from human.
Describing the project, Russo-Young praised its unique blend of horror, humour and emotional depth.
“Propulsive and playful, this project’s strength is its compelling point of view and heart beneath the horror,” the director said. “I’m thrilled to bring it to life with such an extraordinary and gifted group of collaborators.”
Russo-Young previously directed The Sun Is Also a Star (2019) and has also worked on television series including Shrinking and And Just Like That.
