Teaser: Nicolas Cage and Bill Skarsgård Face Off in First Look at ‘Lords of War’

Nicolas Cage is returning to one of his most memorable roles, with the first trailer for Lords of War offering a glimpse at the highly anticipated sequel to the 2005 crime drama Lord of War. This time, Cage is joined by Bill Skarsgård, who steps into the role of his character’s son as the story explores a dangerous family rivalry built around power, ambition and betrayal.

Cage reprises his role as Yuri Orlov, the notorious international arms dealer whose criminal empire now faces a new threat from within his own family. Skarsgård plays Anton, Yuri’s son, who has developed into a ruthless mercenary mastermind with ambitions of his own. Rather than following in his father’s footsteps, Anton is determined to destroy the legacy Yuri has spent his life building.

Written and directed by Andrew Niccol, who also helmed the original film, Lords of War will explore the increasingly complicated relationship between father and son as they find themselves on opposing sides of the global arms trade. With both men driven by their own ambitions, the sequel promises a tense confrontation where family loyalty and business interests collide.

The original Lord of War followed Yuri Orlov’s rise through the international arms-dealing industry, while federal agent Jack Valentine, played by Ethan Hawke, attempted to bring him to justice. The film also featured Jared Leto as Yuri’s younger brother, Vitaly, and Bridget Moynahan as his wife, Ava Fontaine. Despite being detained towards the end of the film, Yuri ultimately found his way back into the dangerous business.

Alongside Cage and Skarsgård, the sequel features Laura Harrier, Sylvia Hoeks and Greg Tarzan Davis. Cage, Niccol, Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi are producing the project.

Both films are reportedly inspired by the life of Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, whose real-world activities helped shape the original movie’s exploration of international weapons trafficking.

With Niccol returning behind the camera and Cage revisiting a character that remains a standout in his filmography, Lords of War looks set to deliver another compelling look into the dangerous world of international arms dealing.

Lords of War is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on January 22, 2027.
