Kate McKinnon, Jacob Tremblay and Ego Nwodim Join New High School Comedy ‘I’m With Stupid’

A new high school comedy is bringing together an exciting ensemble of comedy and acting talent. Kate McKinnon, Jacob Tremblay, Ego Nwodim, and Chabely Ponce are set to star in I’m With Stupid, a coming-of-age comedy directed by Hannah Pearl Utt.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be written by Carolina Barlow (The Hawk) and Peter Kelly (Big Mouth). Utt, whose previous directing credits include the 2023 comedy-drama Cora Bora, will lead the project. Upgrade is handling international sales and plans to introduce the film to potential buyers at the upcoming American Film Market.

The story centers on Noah, played by Tremblay, a high school senior who has strong opinions about everything but lacks the motivation to get much done. Ponce portrays Hadley, his wealthy classmate, who begins questioning her expected future as a trophy wife and considers a different path for herself.

McKinnon takes on the role of Principal Dunlap, an unpopular school administrator whose behavior becomes increasingly vindictive. Meanwhile, Nwodim plays Ms. Reed, an unconventional English teacher who develops a close connection with her students and becomes one of their biggest supporters.

I’m With Stupid follows Noah and Hadley, two students from completely different social backgrounds who are forced to work together to avoid failing their final year of high school. As they navigate their differences, the unlikely partnership challenges their perspectives and pushes them toward graduation.

Utt expressed her excitement about the project, saying, “I’m thrilled to make a movie that’s this funny but has this much heart, with my dream group of collaborators.”

The film is being produced by Mallory Schwartz and Jen Goyne Blake. Executive producers include Jonathan Kier and Matt Brodlie for Upgrade, Christine D’Souza for After Hours, Marc Danon and Kyle Fox of Fox Global Capital, and April Shih of Diversity Hire.

Production is scheduled to take place between February and March 2027, with Rich Delia overseeing casting. UTA Film Finance Group and After Hours are jointly representing the project for domestic sales.

Upgrade executives Kier and Brodlie also shared their enthusiasm for the film, highlighting the growing demand for smart, unapologetically funny comedies. They praised Utt’s ability to balance absurd humor with genuine emotion and expressed confidence that the talented ensemble could help the movie appeal to a new generation of comedy audiences.

With a promising cast and a story built around friendship, social differences, and the chaos of senior year, I’m With Stupid is shaping up to be an entertaining addition to the high school comedy genre.
