Paul Giamatti is returning to the horror genre for the first time in over ten years with his new film, Boutique. According to a report from Deadline, Giamatti has joined the cast of the upcoming horror project, which is written and directed by Jim Gavin, known for his work on Lodge 49. In the film, Giamatti will portray Calvin, an American tourist who travels to a hauntingly atmospheric seaside town in England that inspired the works of his favorite reclusive author. However, his visit leads him to become entangled with a deadly secret society that infiltrates the entire town, as described in the movie’s logline.
Giamatti expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “I’m crazy excited to be a part of this and for Touchy Feely to be working with XYZ. It’s scary, funny, bizarre, and strangely moving — one of the best scripts I’ve ever read by one of the most talented guys I know, Jim Gavin!”
Production is scheduled to begin this summer, with Giamatti also serving as a producer on the film. The project is being produced by James Harris, Mark Lane, and Guy Danella. Boutique will be Gavin’s feature directorial debut, coming after his recent work as a writer on the AMC+ sci-fi series Moonhaven.
For Giamatti, this marks his return to horror since 2016’s Morgan, which also starred Kate Mara and Anya Taylor-Joy. His recent roles include a 2025 episode of Black Mirror and an upcoming appearance in the Star Trek series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. His latest film credits are Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale (2025) and The Holdovers (2023). He is also set to star in Jesse Eisenberg’s currently untitled musical comedy.
