Benedict Cumberbatch Signs On for New A24 Series ‘White Smoke’

Benedict Cumberbatch has lined up another major project, adding a new television series from A24 to his already busy schedule. Widely recognized for his role as Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Cumberbatch continues to juggle multiple high-profile projects across film and television.

It remains uncertain whether Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Doctor Strange in the upcoming Marvel films Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, as Marvel Studios has yet to officially confirm the character’s involvement. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his Marvel future, the actor’s slate remains packed with notable collaborations.

Among his upcoming film projects, Cumberbatch is set to appear in Guy Ritchie’s film Wife & Dog, which is scheduled to arrive in October. He is also attached to star in Cary Joji Fukunaga’s thriller Blood on Snow, although that film has not yet been given an official release date.

Now, Cumberbatch has secured yet another role, this time leading a new television series titled White Smoke. The show is being developed by A24 and will be based on an upcoming novel written by Nick Brucker. Interestingly, the book that inspired the series is not expected to be published until 2027, making the adaptation an early and ambitious project for the studio.
