Although John Wick’s story seems to have concluded, some familiar assassin allies still have unfinished business. Donnie Yen, who reprises his role as the blind assassin Caine, recently announced that his standalone Lionsgate film is officially in production. Yen shared the news on Instagram Saturday, posting a photo of the film’s slate and writing, “Here we go…”
Yen’s character, Caine, made his franchise debut in John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023). As a blind former High Table assassin, Caine was forced out of retirement on a mission to eliminate Wick, aiming to protect his daughter. Following the film’s massive success—crossing the $1 billion mark—plans for a solo Caine movie were revealed in 2024, with Yen stepping in as director last year.
This new film comes after Ballerina, released last year, which starred Ana de Armas and was the first non-Wick standalone in the franchise. Ballerina focused on a young Ruska Roma assassin seeking vengeance for her father. Additionally, the franchise is expanding further with a prequel anime film currently in development, as well as a sequel series titled John Wick: Under the High Table.
