Prime Video has released a trailer teasing several upcoming movies and TV series, including a prequel to Legally Blonde titled Elle.
The trailer, titled “Prime Video’s Obsession is in Session,” offers a first look at Elle Woods, the beloved character from Legally Blonde. This new series serves as a prequel to the 2001 film, which starred Reese Witherspoon as Elle. Elle will explore her high school years before she heads to Harvard. Lexi Minetree takes on the role of Elle, shown wearing a pink bathing suit by the pool. The footage also features Elle’s chihuahua, Bruiser Woods, and a scene of her walking through her high school hallway. According to Prime Video’s synopsis, “In Season 1, Elle follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film.”
The series features June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mother, Eva, and Tom Everett Scott as her father, Wyatt. The cast also includes Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney, and Zac Looker. Recurring roles feature Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, Amy Pietz, Matt Ober, Chloe Wepper, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada, and the late James Van Der Beek.
Laura Kittrell created the character of Elle and is co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries. Other executive producers include Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Marc Platt, and Amanda Brown. Jason Moore will direct the first two episodes.
Elle is set to premiere on July 1 on Prime Video, and the series has already been renewed for a second season.
The trailer also highlighted Prime Video’s upcoming lineup of movies and shows aimed at young adults, including titles like Maxton Hall, Clashing Through The Snow, Off Campus, Every Year After, Your Fault: London, and The Love Hypothesis.
