Kevin Hart is set to star in an upcoming untitled action comedy film on Netflix, marking a reunion with director McG, who is returning to the genre that helped launch his feature filmmaking career. The project is backed by a high-profile producing team, including Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps and Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort.

McG, who first made his mark over 25 years ago with the hit film Charlie’s Angels, will take the helm of this new project starring Hart, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The story revolves around two rival spies who unexpectedly cross paths in a Lamaze class when their wives develop a close friendship. As circumstances force the two to team up, they must navigate their conflicting professional and personal lives as they approach fatherhood. Casting for the role of Hart’s spy counterpart has not yet been announced.

The screenplay is penned by Adam and Aaron Nee, known for The Lost City, alongside Jonathan Tropper, who previously wrote This Is Where I Leave You and contributed to The Adam Project. The story is adapted from Sean Lewis’ short story.

On the production side, Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps is attached, with Dan Levine and Emily Morris producing for the banner behind Netflix’s Stranger Things. Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort is also producing, continuing their collaborative streak that includes titles like Free Guy, Deadpool, Wolverine, and The Adam Project. For this film, however, Levy and Reynolds will serve as producers rather than director and actor.

Kevin Hart will produce through his Hartbeat label, joined by Luke Kelly-Clyne and Bryan Smiley.

This project adds to the growing relationship between both Hart and McG with Netflix. Hart’s upcoming Netflix projects include The Roast of Kevin Hart scheduled for May 10 and the comedy 72 Hours set for release on July 24. Meanwhile, McG’s recent feature films have also been released on Netflix, further strengthening the partnership.
